Welcoming & Toddler Friendly Recipe - A recipe that welcomes all to the kitchen for a simple, low-ingredient recipe full of flavour!

These rice crispy treats are so hard to put down with 3 simple ingredients!!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter

  • 2 cups mini marshmallows

  • 2 cups rice cereal

PROCESS:
*The melting of the butter with marshmallows should be done only by an adult and away from the toddler!*

  • Add parchment paper or butter a 6 x 6 pan.
*You can use any other sized pan; it would just change the thickness of the treat! Muffin tin, bigger 8 x 8 pans, or even go with a scoop on parchment paper!*

  • Measure and add the butter and marshmallows to a saucepan.

  • Place saucepan over low heat
    *NOT DONE WITH TODDLER*

  • While the butter and marshmallows are melting away, keep stirring! Melt until all ingredients become homogeneous.
    *NOT DONE WITH TODDLER*

  • Turn off the heat and stir in the rice cereal to the homogeneous mixture. Once coated, begin pouring out the mixture into your prepared pan.
    *NOT DONE WITH TODDLER*

  • It will cool down quickly, so once poured press down to flatten the surface with a non-stick spatula.
*I allowed a bit of time to pass while the mixture cooled down to "warm", away from the oven obviously, and I had invited my toddler to join. I allowed my little friend to help me flatten while using oven mitts and a spatula as I watched him as a hawk. Be advised, I only did so because I knew he followed instructions and listened to safety protocols - he also had a lot of previous practice baking with me.*
*Thus, use your judgement if your toddler can participate in this step or not*

  • Let cool completely, then decorate (optional) and serve.

ADD ONS:

  • Let your heart go wild! You don't even have to use Rice Cereal! Feel free to use any cereal of your choosing to make this treat extra delicious!

  • Apart from the recipe you can add so many delicious add ons while you are at the "incorporating the cereal" step! This includes, but not limited to: chopped nuts, dried fruits, chocolate chips, extra non-melted marshmallows, sprinkles, chopped chocolate bars, etc!

  • To change the flavour of the rice krispie treats you can add in 1-2 tablespoons of a paste to change the flavour, such as a nut butter, thick chocolate spread, cookie butter etc! you can even add a tablespoon of dried, powdered fruit for a fresh flavour such as strawberries!

DECORATING:

  • Decorating is so much fun! If you use a flat pan such as a baking sheet, you can welcome those little hands to use buttered cookie cutters to cut out their desired shapes!

  • Use chocolate drizzle to decorate, sprinkles or other non-choking hazards! Those little hands will know exactly what to do! Even if it means eating half by the time they add them as decor ...

  • you can also even dip a food grade stick in chocolate and insert it to pre-cut rectangular/square rice krispies! Then dip in chocolate and sprinkle some fun as seen in the picture!!
    Possibilities are endless!
